Editorial Policy

Why this page exists

AnglerTrove started in 2026. It has no back catalogue, no audience figures worth quoting and no history you could look up. A site in that position cannot reasonably ask to be trusted on reputation, so what it can do instead is state exactly how it works and be judged against that.

Everything below describes what this site already does, not what it intends to do later.

How river information is researched

• Written for named water. Every guide is written for a specific river and a specific section. General advice with a state name attached is the thing this site exists to replace.
• Primary sources for anything official. Access rules, regulations, closures and flow data come from the agencies that publish them, never from a summary of a summary.
• Volatile facts are not printed as facts. Flow numbers, hatch timing, bag limits and tackle restrictions change, sometimes mid-season. Pages point at the authority that keeps each one current rather than freezing a number that will quietly go stale.
• Uncertainty is stated. Where the honest answer is that it depends, or that it changes, the page says so instead of choosing a confident-sounding version.

How gear recommendations are decided

Gear on this site is organised around fishing situations, not around a catalogue. The question a gear page answers is what a particular river, season, technique or condition actually demands, and which kinds of product meet that.

Recommendations are decided on:

• Fitness for the situation. Whether the thing does the job the water requires. A rod that suits a small high tailwater is the wrong rod for a big freestone in runoff, and a page that recommends one for both is not worth reading.
• Whether it is genuinely needed. The most useful gear advice is often that you do not need the item. Pages say so where that is the answer.
• Durability and repairability where that is publicly documented, and the sort of use the item will actually see.
• Availability at a sensible price from retailers who will honour a warranty.

What we do not claim about gear

We do not claim to have personally tested the products we recommend. Plenty of sites imply a testing programme that does not exist, and the implication is what makes their recommendations feel authoritative. We would rather be less impressive and accurate about it.

Specifically, this site does not publish:

• Field test results, durability testing or side-by-side comparisons that were not actually carried out.
• Star ratings or scores, which imply a measurement process behind them.
• Review counts, user counts or testimonials, none of which we have.
• "Best of" rankings presented as objective when they are reasoning about fit.

Where a recommendation rests on published specifications, on what a category of product is designed for, or on what a water demands, the page says that is the basis. If that ever changes, and something genuinely is tested on the water, the page will say what was done, where, and for how long.

Commercial links

Some links to retailers earn us a commission. This never changes the price you pay and never influences what is recommended. The mechanics, including how the links are marked and what retailers can see, are set out in full in our affiliate disclosure.

Two rules matter here and are worth stating on this page too. Commission is never a factor in whether a product is recommended or in what order products appear. And no page on this site is sponsored, paid for, or written to a brand's brief.

Independence

AnglerTrove is not affiliated with or endorsed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the National Park Service, any other government or land-management agency, any fly shop or any manufacturer. Where those bodies are cited, it is as sources of public information.

No agency, brand or retailer reviews anything before it is published here, and none has been given any right of approval over what this site says.

Corrections

Things on this site will be wrong sometimes. Access changes, a regulation moves, a road washes out, or something was simply misread in the first place.

• Report it to [email protected] and it gets looked at.
• Corrections to a page are made on the page.
• Corrections to a paid product reach the people who bought it. Buyers get the corrected edition rather than being asked to buy it again.
• Where a correction changes the substance of what a page advised, the page says it was corrected rather than quietly editing the record.

What this site will not do

• Publish live conditions, current flows or real-time fishing reports. That is a different job, and it belongs to RiverFinn, which is a separate app in development.
• Guarantee a hatch, a flow, access or a fish.
• Stand in for current regulations or licence requirements.
• Invent numbers to make a page look more authoritative.
• Name a partnership, programme or endorsement that is not real and permitted.

Safety

Nothing on this site is a safety assessment of any location or of conditions on any given day. Moving water, cold water, changing weather and remote terrain are real risks, and judging whether conditions are safe at the time is yours to do. The Terms cover this in full.

If something on this site breaks one of the rules above, that is worth telling us about, and we would rather hear it from you than not. Get in touch.
