These pages deliberately carry no flow numbers, hatch dates or regulation specifics. Those change, sometimes mid-season, and a frozen number on a web page is how people end up on the wrong water on the wrong day. Every page points at the agency that keeps the current version.
Front Range
South Platte - Cheesman / Deckers
The South Platte below Cheesman Reservoir, southwest of Denver, and the closest well-known trout water to the Front Range cities. Cheesman Canyon and the Deckers stretch sit on the same river and fish nothing like each other.
Big Thompson & RMNP
The Big Thompson from its headwaters inside Rocky Mountain National Park, through Estes Park, and down the canyon toward Loveland. Two quite different fisheries under one name.
South Park
South Platte - Dream Stream
The stretch of the South Platte running between Spinney Mountain Reservoir and Eleven Mile Reservoir, in the open country of South Park. Short, exposed, and known well beyond Colorado.
South Platte - Eleven Mile Canyon
The South Platte below Eleven Mile Reservoir, running through a canyon on the way toward Lake George. A road follows the river for most of it.
Northern Colorado
Cache la Poudre
The Poudre runs northwest out of Fort Collins through its own canyon, and is the only river in Colorado carrying a national Wild and Scenic designation.
Central Colorado
Arkansas River
A long freestone running down central Colorado past Buena Vista and Salida, including the Browns Canyon stretch. One of the longest continuous trout fisheries in the state.
Summit County
Blue River
The Blue below Dillon Reservoir, running straight through Silverthorne and on north, with a further tailwater section below Green Mountain Reservoir.
Grand County
Colorado River - Upper
The Colorado in Grand County, above and below Kremmling and through the Parshall area, before it gathers the volume it is known for further west.
Eagle County
Eagle River
The Eagle runs west through Avon, Edwards and Gypsum before joining the Colorado at Dotsero, with the interstate alongside it for much of the way.
Gunnison Valley
Taylor River
The Taylor below Taylor Park Reservoir, running down the canyon toward Almont where it joins the East River to form the Gunnison.
Western Slope
Gunnison - Black Canyon / Gorge
The Gunnison below Crystal Dam, running through Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and then the Gunnison Gorge downstream of it.
Roaring Fork Valley
Fryingpan River
The Fryingpan below Ruedi Reservoir, running fourteen miles down to Basalt where it meets the Roaring Fork. Small water with a very large reputation.
Roaring Fork River
From high on Independence Pass down through Aspen, Basalt and Carbondale to the confluence with the Colorado at Glenwood Springs, gaining size the whole way.
Northwest Colorado
Yampa River
The Yampa runs through the middle of Steamboat Springs, with tailwater below Stagecoach Reservoir upstream and a long freestone river continuing downstream.
San Luis Valley
Rio Grande
The upper Rio Grande in southwest Colorado, above and below Creede and on down past South Fork into the San Luis Valley.
